Who is Janice Scott?

About Janice Scott

       Janice is a visionary and inspiring leader who has worked as an educator for 30 years throughout the State of Georgia.  She is a native of Savannah, Georgia, where she began her teaching career with the Savannah-Chatham Public School System. While in Savannah, she dedicated her talent, expertise, and knowledge in the areas of elementary, middle, high, and alternative education.  She was employed as a public educator in her lovely hometown for a combined total of fifteen years. 

     In 2002, after her tenure in Savannah, she and her family moved to Jonesboro, Georgia.  She continued her career in education and has worked for three school systems within the past 18 years, including Atlanta City Public Schools, Clayton County Schools, and Henry County Schools.  Since moving to Jonesboro, she has joined, supported, and volunteered with many community organizations, including the Clayton County Democratic Party, Metro Association of Classroom Educators (MACE) and Clayton County Education Association (CCEA) both of which she served as a county and national delegate. Janice has also remained active and involved in local and state politics. 

Currently, she is a candidate for Clayton County Board of Commissioners, District 4. 

     In addition to the work she conducted with community organizations, Janice also made time to serve the public through activism and volunteerism. She was appointed by the Clayton County Commissioner Chairman to serve on the Georgia State Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Advisory Board which she served for four years. In addition, she has served as Vice-Chair for the Clayton County Democratic Executive Committee, and has been a member of the Clayton County Democratic Party for over eight years. Janice continues to be an active Georgia State Democratic Party Committee Member. Currently, she serves as a member of the Clayton County Public School Budget Advisory Board, where she has actively served for the past four years, and currently a member of Clayton County Federation of Democratic Women.

    At the present, Janice is employed with Clayton County Public Schools as a Reading Specialist Teacher at the Alternative Virtual Academy, where she works diligently and faithfully to help students reach their academic needs and learning abilities. She believes all students can be academically successful with implementation of best practices, explicit instructions, and a strong student-centered focus for learning at schools. 

   Throughout her career in education, Janice has served in multiple school system as Lead Mentor and as a member of school leadership teams. She was a nominee for Teacher of the Year (TOTY) several times in her tenure from former school’s system, an Educational Fellow Liaison for Deep Kid’s Writing Club (Young Authors), and was awarded Teacher of the Year (TOTY) at Eddie White Middle Academy for 2020-2021 in Clayton County. 

   Janice considers herself a person of loyalty and will fight for what is right for all people. She has and will advocate for Human Rights and Social Justice. She believes in getting the job done with high standards. 

    Janice earned a Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.) in Criminal Justice from Savannah State University, (formerly Savannah State College), a Master Degree (M.Ed.) in Urban Education and a Specialist Degree (Ed. S.) in Supervision Leadership both from Cambridge College, Boston MA.

   Janice’s immediate family consists of her son, daughter in-law, daughter, and three grandchildren. 

    Janice is a member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Jonesboro, Georgia.
